The Fourth Sunday of Lent
My Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,
The
Scriptures for this week at all of the Masses will be from Cycle A. Today's Holy
Gospel fro Cycle A presents Jesus giving sight to the man born blind.
The movement of Lent is a journey to Easter, when we will renew our baptismal
promises and pledge once more to live a life that renounces the power and
attraction of evil and commit ourselves more fully to living life in union with
the Trinity. Today's readings offer us some images of what it means to be a new
creation. We pray that whatever form our journey takes, we will preserve in
becoming, individually and communally, a new creation. We ask the Father to send
forth the Holy Spirit upon us so that we will be recreated as this same Spirit
continues to renew the face of the earth.
This coming Saturday, March 20th, we will have our Lenten Penance Service at
10:00 a.m. in the Basilica. There will be outside confessors available for the
Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is a good time to make your Lenten
confession. There will be no confessions that day at the regular time of
2:45-3:34 p.m.
Bishop
Pates has asked each parish to take up a collection for Catholic Charities this
weekend. Please do what you can to help the diocese in this important outreach.
During Lent we are having our Fish Fry Suppers on Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Please plan on coming to the Mulvihill Hall for a good fish supper on Fridays.
Stations of the Cross and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament will follow
in the Basilica at 7:00 p.m. and this is a good way to do a little extra during
these holy days of preparing for Easter.
The 10:30 a.m. weekend Mass homily is now on YouTube you may access this on your
computer by going to YouTube.com/BasilicaStJohn.
May the Holy Lenten Season be one full of God's graces and blessings for all of
you. May the Lord bless you all!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
The Very
Reverend Aquinas M. Nichols, O.S.B.
Administrator
of the Basilica of St. John
