Levels of Giving

Gifts of any amount are welcome. All contributions are acknowledged in writing and all donors are remembered in daily masses.
Benefactor members are those who contribute $500 or more to the Foundation. Those who contribute at this level can specify a name to be engraved on the Foundation plaque to be mounted in a place determined at a later date.
Donors who give an amount up to $500 become Associate Members of the Foundation.

Ways of Giving

Contributions can be made in the following ways:

  • CASH - A cash donation can be handled either as a one-time gift or given in installments over a period of time. You might choose to give an annual gift to the Foundation. Consider such a contribution as a memorial to honor someone you love, in thanksgiving for blessings received, and so forth.
  • SECURITIES - A gift to the Foundation of stocks or bonds provides special tax advantages to the donor.
  • LIFE INSURANCE - The Foundation can be designated as beneficiary of a life insurance policy, which provides a larger gift for the future at a small cost now.
  • BEQUESTS - Contributions can be designated in a will or funeral gifts can be contributed as a memorial to the deceased.
  • OTHER GIFTS - Real estate or charitable reminder annuities are also welcome contributions to the Foundation.

If you are considering a gift to the Foundation, you may want to consult a financial planner, who can explain the financial and tax benefits of planned, charitable giving through stocks, bonds, bequests, and insurance policies.

Basilica of St. John Foundation

The Basilica of St. John Foundation was established to make it possible to plan for future needs of the parish. Thanks to several generous gifts from parishioners/benefactors totaling $234,396, the endowment fund has grown to a current value of $501,969.

On April 14, 2004, our parish created The Basilica of St. John Foundation to secure the future to the parish, its buildings and its grounds. The goals established for the Foundation are to:

  • Establish an investment that will grow and provide income for extraordinary expenditures beyond the ability of the parish to pay from weekly collections and ordinary contributions.
  • Provide funds for capital improvements and maintenance projects.
  • Provide funds for the education of future seminarians from the Basilica parish.
  • Provide funds for tuition grants for Basilica of St. John students attending Holy Family School and Dowling Catholic High School.

An endowment fund or one million dollars in conservative investments could generate $30,000 to $50,000 per year in income for the parish. A contribution to the Endowment Fund is a permanent gift that will provide income and support for The Basilica of St. John community for years to come.
